Powerful V8 engines, thrilling driving dynamics and distinctive, motorsport-inspired equipment have turned the top-of-the-range models of the C-Class from Mercedes-AMG into bestsellers. The C 63 perfectly embodies the core of the performance and sports car brand and now offers, in the guise of the Saloon, Estate, Coupé and Cabriolet, even better dynamics and a more modern interior with extended individualisation options. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G transmission with wet start-off clutch makes for an even more agile gearshift response. The V8 biturbo engine is available in two output variants rated at 350 kW (476 PS) or 375 kW (510 PS) for all four body styles and delivers a performance on a par with that of a sports car – the top speed of C 63 S Saloon and Coupé is 290 km/h. All variants upgraded even more substantially. “The AMG C-Class is our bestselling model series and therefore a key cornerstone of our company’s success of recent years. We have therefore increasingly expanded our C-Class offer: customers can now choose between twelve models from the C-Class family. As part of the latest facelift, we have upgraded all variants of the model series even more substantially,” says Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. “This relates to the 43-series models and especially, of course, to the AMG C 63. The perfected driving dynamics and expressive design underscore the powerful, muscular character of the rear-wheel drive icon.” Exterior emphasises the brand identity. The exterior of the new C 63 underscores the brand identity of the performance models with the AMG-specific radiator trim with vertical louvres in high-gloss chrome. With a redesigned transverse fin in the outer air inlets, the front apron in A-wing design gives an even stronger emphasis to the width of the vehicle. When viewed from the side, eye-catching features include the sporty side skirts plus aerodynamically optimised AMG light-alloy wheels. The rear view, too, with two remodelled twin tailpipe trim elements in high-gloss chrome, has a muscular look, which is reinforced by the new, more expressive diffuser. The S-versions are additionally provided with a diffuser board. The lateral air curtain look of the rear apron makes for improved air flow at the rear end, as does the spoiler lip on the boot lid (Estate: roof spoiler), which is painted in the vehicle colour. The optional AMG Aerodynamics package for the C 63 Coupé provides an even sportier look: the more expressive front splitter, spoiler lip with integral Gurney flap, broader side skirt inserts, flics in the rear bumper and more expressive diffuser insert are finished in high-gloss black. Sporty, distinctive character. The interior reinforces the dynamic calibre of the new C 63 with numerous details. The standard specification includes the classic-sporty equipment with black seat covers in ARTICO man-made leather/DINAMICA microfibre, combined with trim in black piano-lacquer look/light longitudinal-grain aluminium. The optional AMG Performance seats provide optimum lateral support when adopting a dynamic driving style thanks to the special design of the seat side bolsters of the seat cushion and backrest. As an option, the seat side bolsters can be perfectly adjusted to the body contours by means of built-in air cushions. The Performance seats additionally lend the interior a sporty, distinctive character with their integral head restraints. Innovative display concept and operating system. Whether with touchpad and Controller, Touch Control buttons on the steering wheel or via voice entry: the operating system of the C 63 is just as versatile as it is flexible. All options are aimed at enabling the control tasks to be carried out as conveniently, quickly and appropriately to the situation as possible. Just as flexible is the display of the optional fully digital instrument cluster in front of the driver with cm ( screen diagonal, which brings the vehicle functions directly to life with the three AMG-specific display styles of “Classic”, “Sporty” or “Supersport”. New generation of AMG steering wheels. Extremely sporty design, a grippy shape with a heavily contoured rim and intuitive operation are the key attributes of the new AMG steering wheel in nappa leather, which comes as standard equipment. It has a flattened bottom section and is perforated in the grip area. The galvanised steering wheel gearshift paddles allow an even sportier driving style with manual gear shifting. The built-in Touch Control buttons are a new feature. These can be used to control the functions of the instrument cluster (left) and the multimedia system (right) by means of horizontal and vertical swiping movements of the finger. Unique offering in the segment with V8 biturbo engine. The C 63 now makes use for the first time of the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G transmission, which the Mercedes-AMG developers have tuned specifically for a dynamic driving experience. A wet start-off clutch continues to replace the torque converter. This saves weight and optimises the response to the driver’s accelerator pedal input, particularly during acceleration and load changes. The multiple downshift function allows more spontaneous bursts of speed, while the double-declutching function in “Sport” and “Sport+” drive programs makes for an even more emotional driving experience. “Manual” mode can be selected using a separate button in the centre console. The eight-cylinder biturbo engine is already used in numerous AMG Performance vehicles. A characteristic feature is that the two turbochargers are positioned not on the outside of the cylinder banks, but inside the cylinder “V”. The main advantages of this design are the compact engine construction and optimal response. The large cooling system guarantees the performance of the engine even under extreme loading – such as at track days on the race track. One mechanic assembles each engine in the engine shop in Affalterbach according to the “one man – one engine” principle. Improved traction. The typical V8 engine sound is another key element of the AMG driving experience. The C 63 comes as standard with an AMG exhaust system with a variable flap. For improved traction and driving dynamics, the C 63 and C 63 S are equipped with an electronically controlled rear-axle limited-slip differential. This reduces the slip on the inside wheel when cornering, without any control intervention in the braking system. The result is that it allows the driver to accelerate out of corners earlier thanks to the improved traction. The more powerful C 63 S comes with dynamic engine mounts. These resolve the conflicting aims of comfort and dynamic performance by reducing vibrations in the engine/transmission unit. With its adjustable, electronically controlled damping system, the AMG RIDE CONTROL steel suspension of the C 63 provides both sporty driving dynamics and brand-typical comfort on long journeys. We’ve created a rendering to show what the C63 Black Series might look like by , on March 8, 2016, 14:00 LISTEN 09:13 A few years back, Mercedes replaced the CLC with a real C-Class Coupe. In 2016, we finally got the Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe – the replacement for the W204-based 2015 Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe. The new C63 Coupe took on Mercedes new design language and a new V-8 that has become common in AMG-based vehicles. There was a 2013 Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe, so it is only fitting that there will eventually be a Mercedes-AMG C63 Black Series that boasts the new styling and engine from the new C63. That said, we decided to have our resident artist create a rendering of the C63 Black Series ahead of time, and we were excited to see what he came up with. Obviously, it will look quite similar to the C63, but it will have all the goodies normally associated with a track-focused black series, including some more aggressive body styling and some black accenting to give it that darker appearance that stands out among other models in the crowd. We’ve been excited to take a deeper look at the C63 Black Series, and now that we have a predictive rendering, we’re going to do just that. Exterior Up front, you’ll see the same headlights and radiator grille that is on the standard C63, but down below that chrome trim that surrounds that creates two vents out of what would be a massive air dam is now painted in a gloss black finish. As you can see, there is also four vertical louvers below the air dam that help to support the carbon fiber spoiler that is attached to the front fascia. On each side of the fascia two carbon fiber flics have been added. The hood in our rendering is similar to the standard C63, but there is a small vent on each side of the body line that runs down the center of the hood. This is similar to the design that was used on the 2013 C53 AMG Black Series, but these vents are spread out a little more. To the sides, we see that the C63 Black Series rides on black, twin-dual-spoke wheels that will likely be 20-inches in size To the sides, we see that the C63 Black Series rides on black, twin-dual-spoke wheels that will likely be 20-inches in size. The same body lines remain, but the side skirts have been replaced with more aggressive units that have a vent at the rear wheel arch. A carbon fiber insert has also been applied to the side skirt, which really ties the sides to the front quite well. In the rear, we expect to see the same taillights and twin, dual exhaust outlets but expect to see a function spoiler attached to the decklid to help improve downforce on the rear axle. Also, down below the vertical vents in the corner of the rear fascia will probably be a bit larger. The rear diffuser will be much more aggressive than the unit that is on the C63. I suspect the three fins on the diffuser will be longer and will obviously sit lower to the ground as the C63 Black Series will sit lower as well. With the addition of carbon fiber inserts on the front fascia and side skirts, I would expect to see similar treatment either above, or between the reflectors on the rear fascia. All told, if Mercedes goes with a design similar to our rendering, the C63 is going to be one aggressive coupe. Interior We don’t know what Mercedes-AMG has planned for the interior of a future Black Series model, but if we look back at the 2013 C63 AMG, we can get an idea of what Merc will change inside the new Black Series. Expect to see racing seats replace the standard front seats, and I would expect the infotainment system to have modified software that allows for the tracking of track performance and lap times. Aside from that, the flat-bottom steering wheel and gorgeous interior design cues will carry over onto the Black Series. I have a feeling the lighter colors in the C63 will probably be darkened to help emphasize the “Black Series” moniker, and healthy appointments of carbon fiber will probably make their way into the cabin as well. Drivetrain Note: Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe drivetrain pictured here. As far as the drivetrain department is concerned, the engine has already come in two different guises for the C63. In the base model, it produces 469 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. In the C63 S Coupe, the same engine produces 503 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. In base form, the C63 hits the 62 mph benchmark in seconds, and in S form, it does the run in seconds. With that said, I expect the Black Series to offer even better specs, with horsepower coming in at no less than 550 horsepower and torque sitting closer to 600 pound-feet. This should help the C63 Black Series outperform its other brethren in the 62 mph sprint with a time closer the seconds. As usual, speed will be limited to 155 mph, but it will still get there nice and fast. Besides, you’ll be powering around corners and overtaking others, who needs to go above 150? Prices It’s still way too early to dive too deep into speculation on pricing, but with the standard Mercedes-AMG C63 going for $65,250, I expect the Black Series to pull closer to $90,000 before options, taxes, and delivery. CompetitionBMW M4 Competition Package As the C-class competes against the BMW 4 Series, the C63 competes against the BMW M4, so it is only fitting that the C63 Black Series go up against the BMW M4 Competition Package. Much like we’re expecting from the C63 Black Series, the M4 Competition package takes on minor changes inside and out, with the biggest update happening under the hood. The M4 Competition Package has a total output 450 horsepower, which is a 19 horsepower improvement over the standard M4. The increase in horsepower is likely brought on by the addition of the M sports exhaust that comes standard on the M4 Competition. With the increase in horsepower the M4 Competition this the 62 mph benchmark in just seconds. Sure, these specs are a little lower than where the Black Series will slot in, but the M4 Competition should also be significantly cheaper as well. Read our full review here. Jaguar F-Type R Coupe While I’ve fallen in love with the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe AWD, it really wouldn’t be fair to compare that model because the Black Series probably won’t have all-wheel drive. That said, the rear-wheel drive F-Type R should do the deed just well. It has beautiful and sporty styling inside and out and comes with plenty of pleasure-inducing power as well. The F-Type R’s supercharged engine pumps out 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque. That power is delivered to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The sprint to 60 mph takes just seconds on the way to a top speed of 186 mph. You can get a V-6 F-Type for about $65,000, but if you want the F-Type R Coupe and that heart-racing power that comes with it, you’ll be asked to shell out at least $99,000 before taxes, options, and delivery. It might be a bit on the expensive side, but after taking it for a test drive, you’ll find that the $100,000 sticker price isn’t as hard to swallow when you’re pinned to your seat on the way to 180 mph. Conclusion The C63 Coupe is already more than enough for me, so I would really like to take a trip around the block in a better, Black Series model. We have no idea when or if Mercedes is going to drop a C63 Black Series, but when it does, we’ll be there to check it out. That’s for sure. We seem to have a good feel for the way Mercedes-AMG does things, so the chances are that a real Black Series will probably look quite similar to our rendering. We’ll just have to wait until Mercedes decides to get frisky and drops the news on the Black Series we all desire. Tłumienie jest sztywne i błyskawiczne, nadwozie wykonuje urywane, „twarde” ruchy w stylu aut wyczynowych, tak jakby Black pod skórą miał wszystko zespawane na sztywno. Kontakt kół z nawierzchnią jest pierwsza klasa, auto ma zawsze gotową odpowiedź na zmianę obciążenia kół i mimo że nie stara się ukryć swojej sporej masy (1,75 tony), okazuje się bardzo zwinne i zaskakująco odporne na uślizg przednich kół. Można się bardzo mocno „oprzeć” na zewnętrznej przedniej oponie bez wywołania podsterowności, a kiedy ta w końcu się pojawia, okazuje się łagodna i łatwa do zneutralizowania poprzez odjęcie gazu. Podsterowność można też naturalnie „objechać” mocą silnika – 500 koni wystarcza, żeby zerwać przyczepność tylnych kół na zawołanie. Blacka nie wolno jednak do niczego zmuszać. Jak każdy mięśniak, C 63 lepiej reaguje na sugestie – mniejsze ruchy kierownicą i balansowanie ciężarem dają na torze znacznie lepsze efekty. Mercedes jest wtedy bezwzględnie posłuszny, precyzyjny i ma fantastyczne właściwości trakcyjne, znacznie lepsze niż można się po 500-konnym, tylnonapędowym aucie spodziewać. ŚWIETNE ZAWIESZENIE Układ kierowniczy jest bardzo dobrze wyważony i bezpośredni i jeśli nawet skrętom C 63 brakuje tej nanometrowej precyzji, jaką mają na przykład modele Porsche, to jest to wina raczej kilogramów niż układu kierowniczego. A decade is a long time, especially in the world of cars. When AMG launched the C63 Black Series in 2012, this was before anybody had driven the first AMG hot hatch, pre-SLS Black Series and way, way before the tie up with Aston Martin. If 2012 seems a long time ago, that might be because it amongst the usual excitement around a 500hp, V8 Mercedes, however, was an interesting story on PistonHeads about the Black Series. Written by Chris Harris, it suggested that the new track-focused C-Class might in fact be the perfect road car for the UK: "Running sticky Dunlops, the C63 BS (that's Black Series to you lot tittering at the back) is a remarkable concoction of seemingly conflicting personalities: supple, relaxing, exciting, composed and utterly hair-brained." It was remarkable news, chiefly because all those years ago, you never quite knew what a Black Series Mercedes might be...Nowadays, of course, we expect epic and tend to get it - the latest, 730hp GT Black Series being the most emphatic proof. But at the time of the C63 the world had seen the SLK, CLK and SL Black Series. The SLK simply wasn't very good, the CLK was utterly wonderful, and the SL didn't make sense beyond tarmac that wasn't very flat, very smooth, and very wide. There'd been no consistency; even with the ordinary W204 C63 AMG having impressed so much, previous form meant there was no guarantee of a brilliant Black needn't have worried. Obviously the C63 looked the part, as even the original SLK Black did, with its ludicrously broad arches and punchy stance. Performance was guaranteed, too, with the V8 benefitting from a lighter crank, con-rods and pistons to produce 517hp - up a substantial 60hp on the standard it was the way the car drove that marked it out as one of the great Black Series AMGs. It was designed to be more capable on circuit - with wider tracks, adjustable coilover suspension, chunkier anti-roll bars and just two seats - which it was, but still made for an engaging, enjoyable road car as well. It's seldom that focused limited editions are a joy to drive both to and around the track - the C63 Black was one of the special such, it was pretty expensive. A launch price of £100,000 was already tens of thousands more than a standard C63, and could easily be inflated with options - the original RRP of the Black driven for our Hero story was nearer £140k. Having depreciated a little, the best C63 of its era is now enjoying a rise in values; while there may well be another C63 Black in time, it's surely going to be a more complex, less amenable AMG than this one. People in the know are aware what a special car it is, and as a result this one - in Diamond White with shiny wheels, but lacking the big wing - is for sale at £150k. Having covered fewer than 37,000 miles since first registration 10 years ago, it seems in fine fettle for whatever a new owner has planned for it. GAD updated the engine with its in-house turbo upgrade, upped the rev limiter to 7,000 rpm, and upgraded the cooling system. As a result, the V-8 engine now delivers a total of 850 horsepower and 995 pound-feet of torque. This extra power helps the Black Series sports coupe sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in seconds, to 200 km/h (124 mph) in seconds and to 300 km/h (186 mph) in with full aero package or seconds without the AMG aero package. I’m happy to answer with any info I have! So I’m the 3rd owner and the car was supercharged by the original owner back in 2014/2015 I believe. The car has been supercharged for most of it’s life. I purchased it locally from a dealership that didn’t even know it was supercharged or a 507 edition so I spent quite some time doing as much research as I could, particularly knowing it had an aftermarket SC kit. The misfire code usually just clears after you turn the car off and back on again. I would say it happens maybe 2-3 times a year. I’ve had the dealership and other shops look over the car and they can’t replicate the issue so they basically said they believe it’s tune related and since it doesn’t stay on when it comes on, I assume they’re correct. The 507 has been absolutely wonderful. Truly the best car I’ve ever owned. I honestly don’t know anything about the Kleemann kit, as I purchased the car from a dealership that had no history on the car. My limited history has been found by googling the VIN and finding old posts on forums by the original owner. At one time, the car had long tubes on it but it did not have them when I purchased the car. I also attempted to reach out to the company that did the build and they failed to respond. With regard to the transmission, these transmissions have a habit of failing with high horsepower and I was having the transmission fluid changed when they found some slipping, so I had the whole thing rebuilt.
